Crystal Mill

Colorado

Originally known as the Crystal power plant but not in the same sense that we think of a power plant today.  Instead of electrical power it generated hydraulic power that was used to dig  a nearby tunnel through a mountain.  In addition it sold hydraulic power to nearby silver mines.  It eventually shut down when it was no longer profitable.  Most likely this happened when the U.S. government switched to the gold standard and the bottom fell out of the silver maket.

Today this area is only accessible by hiking or with a good four wheel drive off road vehicle.

The drive took a little longer than I expected and the area was already in shadow.  This was shot from a tripod with a long exposure which gave the waterfall a nice silky look.
